DOWN
Un Noyé, un noyé....... noyé,
The words mournful and gleeful
Flattened across the water below.
Planting ourselves on the aqueduct
Those roman stones distanced us

From the drama. Looking downward
The water was placid, sluggish
Holding him in watery glue.
The heat crushing the movement
He no longer had. Slowly

He turned to the surface.
Silence followed the echo...... noyé.
I see him now, reluctant
Salmon, bleached on the pebbles
Failing at last to spawn
